According to my initial testing GDALDataset->ExecuteSQL returns OGRLayer object that doesn't support editing (as far as I remember I checked it via capabilities and by trying to actually save changes). But I haven't investigated it very deep. Perhaps it's driver specific behavior or there is some workaround. Most likely I'll revisit this issue some time soon as it can be useful for MapWindow 5.
